Lakshmi is a Hindu goddess of Wealth, Fortune and Prosperity. She is the wife and Shakti (energy) of Vishnu.
In the ancient scriptures of India, all women are declared to be the embodiments of Lakshmi. 
She is a symbol for Fortune, Self-Knowledge and Spiritual Liberation.
Greek myth says that nymphs used to hide their naked forms in Peonies to shield them from prying eyes.
