Vocal Activation & Cacao Circle  @ Yelapa Gathering 2023
What is Cacao Ceremony?

A cacao ceremony is a gathering to connect to the ancient medicine of cacao, which is made from raw and minimally processed cacao beans.
Ceremonial grade cacao has its roots in ancient Mesoamerican cultures, where cacao was considered a sacred plant with various spiritual and medicinal properties. Connected to honouring the energies of the day in the Mayan Cosmovision. (The modern day cacao ceremony is different from the way the elders use the cacao, but is still deeply rooted into the same wisdom, if the spaceholder has been trained properly).
In a cacao ceremony we take a moment to connect to our bodies deeply, to notice eacother, to open up our voice to songs and bring insights from the ancient wisdom of the Mayan Cosmovision.

Ceremonial cacao is known for its uplifting and grounding qualities, supporting deeper connection, emotional healing, and self-discovery. Unlike regular chocolate, ceremonial cacao is prepared in a pure, natural way that preserves its rich nutrients and energetic properties.

Health benefits:
Ceremonial cacao is valued for its ability to support both physical and emotional well-being. Rich in antioxidants, magnesium, and essential nutrients such as iron, ceremonial cacao may help improve heart health, support healthy blood flow, and enhance overall vitality.

Compounds like theobromine, phenylamine, and anandamide are believed to promote feelings of joy, relaxation, mental clarity, and focus. In ceremonial settings, cacao is also associated with spiritual and emotional benefits, helping participants experience inner peace, emotional release, self-awareness, and a deeper meditative state.

“ May the Heart of the Sky be in my Heart.
May my Heart be in the Heart of the Earth.
May the Heart of the Earth be in my Heart.
May my Heart be in the Heart of the Sky! ”

Creating Sacred Space
Creating a sacred space for a cacao circle begins with setting a clear intention and cultivating an atmosphere of presence, connection, and respect.

The space can be energetically cleansed with herbs such as sage, while an altar placed at the center may include candles, flowers, meaningful objects, and the cacao itself. Gentle music, guided meditation, or opening rituals help participants relax, become grounded, and enter a reflective state.

The ceremony may also include practices such as singing or sharing circles to deepen connection and emotional expression.

Whether through intention setting, sacred directions, or closing rituals of gratitude, the purpose is to create a supportive environment that honors the experience and encourages inner awareness, healing, and community.
